Alameda Grand Street Marina

The end of Grand Street in Alameda is a convenient location to launch from the boat launch.  With the short rainy days in December, I need to take advantage of the opportunities between storm fronts for a bit of paddling.

Got out on the water just as the sun was coming up.  There were several crew boats already on the estuary between Oakland and Alameda.  Often, I have sailed here in Friday night sailboat races.  The estuary is one of the best long runs for paddling with shelter from the wind and waves on the bay.

I paddled over to Coast Guard Island and around the mark before heading back.  There was rain the day before and more rain coming so this was a great opportunity to get a few rays of sunshine.

One of the 4 person crew boats passing by the Coast Guard ships.

Picked up a few floating garbage items.  I've filled up many 5 Gal buckets of garbage from the estuary.  There are less floating plastic bags these days but more garbage from the runoff from homeless camps along the estuary in Oakland.
